MS Powerpoint Questions (35 Points Total)

Download the PowerPoint file and the image file from here: exam1.ppt (Right-click, and choose Save As... -- use the homework-style naming: e.g. [username]EX1.ppt), Bodylogo.bmp (right click and choose Save As... in the same directory as your exam1 file).  Be sure to save in your drive U:.

Modify the presentation as follows. (Remember to save your work often.)

  1. 3 pts: To slide 1, add the image Bodylogo.bmp.  Reduce the size and move the image so that it fits near the lowest right corner of the slide but does not cover the slide subtitle.
  2. 2 pts; Reduce the size of the subtitle textbox so that "Nutritional Supplements" is on the first line in the text box and "for Active Adults" is on the second line.
  3. 2 pts; Align the centers of the title and the subtitle text boxes.
  4. 6 pts: Insert the Bodylogo.bmp image into the Slide Master and place it to the left of the title.  Resize the image so that it does cover any text.
  5. 5 pts: Go to slide 2 and change its slide layout to "Text and Clip Art".  To the clip-art place holder, add the image of currency, which you can find by typing "currency" into the Search text and press Enter.
  6. 2 pts: Go to slide 3.  Make the second bulleted item a sub-bulleted item of the preceding bullet.  Make the last bulleted item a sub-bulleted item of the preceding bullet.
  7. 2 pts: Add custom animation to slide 3 to show one bullet item at a time with the dissolve effect.
  8. 2 pts: Go to slide 4 and add a slide transition using the box out effect.
  9. 5 pts: Go to slide 5 and delete the text box that contains the four bulleted items "Fresh," "Pure," "Effective," and "Potent."  Draw a 2.75 inch by 2.75 inch square in the blank region below the title.
  10. 6 pts: On each side of the square place a text box, so that each side has one of the following words: "Fresh," "Pure," "Effective," and "Potent."  Keep the normal orientation for the top and the bottom of the square, but rotate the words on each vertical side of the square so that they are parallel to the sides.
  11. Save your work.

MS Access Questions (65 Points Total)

Download the required database file (Right-click the following link and select "Save Target As"): exam1.mdb -- use the homework-style naming: e.g. [username]EX1.mdb).  Open the saved database and add the following tables and queries.
  1. 10 pts: Create a query called AllProducts to display the product code, the coffee name sorted in alphabetical order, the coffee type, the HasDecaf field, the WeightSize field, the Decaf field, the price, and the back ordered field of all the coffee products.

  2. 10 pts: Create a query called OneAndAHalf to display all the coffee products which come in packages of 1.5 oz.  The query should display the product code, the coffee name sorted in alphabetical order, the coffee type, the HasDecaf field, the WeightSize field, the Decaf field, the price, and the back ordered field.

  3. 10 pts: Create a query called DecafBackOrder to display all the decaf coffee products that are being back ordered.  The query should display the product code, the coffee name sorted in alphabetical order, the coffee type, the WeightSize field, the Decaf field, the price, and the back ordered field.

  4. 10 pts: Create a query called PriceIncrease to display calculate and display a price increase of 3% for all the coffee products.  The query should display the product code, the existing price, and the new price.  Label the new price field "NewPrice".  Format the new price field as currency.

  5. 10 pts: Create a query called MinMax that displays the lowest and highest prices grouped by the weight/size.
  6.  15 pts: Rice University has many residential colleges.  Each college has a name and an address.  Rice residential students live in the residential colleges.  Design appropriate tables and add them to the exam1 database to provide information about all the colleges and the students that reside in them.  The information design should be able to tell us the name of each student, which college the student resides in, his/her room number and his/her phone number.  Set up appropriate keys and foreign keys and indicate them in the design of the tables.  Use the look up wizard to establish all appropriate one-to-many referential integrity links.  Write down the names of the tables you design here on this test.

  7.  Drop off the database at the above FTP link.
