MS Powerpoint Questions (30 Points Total)

Richt click here to download the PowerPoint exam file Report.ppt and the picture file Apple.bmp.  Unless you are working on your computer, be sure to save them in your U: drive.

1. Select slide 1 and change the design template from Bold Stripes to Blends.

2. Display the Title Master on the screen, delete the background graphics (the color rectangles and lines) and return to normal view.

3. Decrease the sizes of the two text boxes so that they just fit around the text contained in each box.

4. Move the Title box so that the right edge is about one-quarter inch from the right edge of the slide, and then align the left edges of the two text boxes.

5. Insert the picture file Apple.bmp (that you downloaded earlier) into slide, and move the picture to the left of the title text.

6. Position the Apple picture so that the shadow of the lead appears below the word "Mar" in the title "Marketing..." and above the word "Data."  Change the Order of the picture to the back ("Send to Back") so that you can see all the text.

7. In slide 3, change the layout Title, Clip Art and Text so that the clip art is on the left of the text.

8. In the clip art place holder, add the image of a light bulb.  Resize the picture to fill the place holder. Hint: search for "light bulb" in the Microsoft Clip Arts Gallery and pick any light bulb picture.

9. Create a new slide 4; change the slide layout to Title Only.  Use the  Text Boxes and AutoShapes Block Arrows to create a slide like the one shown below.

When finished, be sure to save the file and close MS PowerPoint.

Because you can only submit once to OWLSPACE, do not upload to OWLSPACE until you finish the Access part of the exam as well.

MS Access Questions (70 Points Total)

  1. (20 pts total ) Online movies rental businesses like BlockBuster.com or NetFlix.com provide the user the capability to search for a movie by entering any word from a movie name or by entering any word from an actor/actress name.  For example, when the user enters "batman", the website will display all the movies whose titles contain the word "batman" and for each of such movies, all the actors/actresses in that movie.  When the user enters an actor/actress's name, the website will display all the movies that particular actor/actress is in.  At the core of such information systems is a relational database that keeps track of the actors/actresses and all the available movies and appropriate relationships between these two entities.

    1. (5 pts) What kind of database relationship exist between the actors/actresses and the movies?  Write your answer here.  Briefly explain your answer.

    2. (10 pts) Design an MS ACCESS database called Movies.mdb with appropriate tables to keep track of the movies and the actors/actresses in the movies.  It must also keep track of the role of each actor/actress in each of the movies.  Use a Memo type field to store the actor/actress's role in a movie.  Clearly denote which fields are keys and which fields are foreign keys in the design of each table.  Create appropriate pair keys in appropriate tables.  Be sure to save the database in the same location as your PowerPoint solution.  This will facilitate the uploading to OWLSPACE later.

    3. (5 pts) Create the relationship diagram to set and display all appropriate referential integrity links.  Use the Lookup Wizard to set the links between the appropriate tables.  Be sure to set cascade update and cascade delete for each of the referential integrity links.

    Do not enter any data.

  2. Right click here to download the database called Books.mdb.  This database keeps track of the books and the authors who author or co-author the books.  The table names and the field names in each table are self-explanatory.  Each of the following questions can be done independently.

    1. (10 pts) Enter fictitious data in each of the tables to show that you understand the design of the tables.  There should be at least 3 authors and at least 3 books.  There should be at least one author who write more than one book.  There should be at least one book which has two or more co-authors.

    2. (10 pts) Create a query called All2006Books that displays the ISBN number, the book title and the published dates of all books published in the year 2006 only.

    3. (10 pts) Create a query called AllBooks that displays the ISBN number, the book title, the price and the author names of all the books.

    4. (10 pts) Create a query called BooksCount that displays the authors' names and the total number of books each author has written.

    1. (10 pts) Create a query called BookPrices that displays the highest book price, the lowest book price and the average book price.

When finished, be sure to close MS ACCESS before uploading any database files.

BE SURE YOU UPLOAD ALL FILES (PowerPoint file and Access files),  TO YOUR OWL-SPACE EXAM 1 LOCATION.
