competitive; i.e. there is no "curve."
Instead, grades will be assigned as follows:
Average | Letter Grade
|
> 90 | A
|
> 80 | B
|
> 65 | C
|
> 50 | D

Exams
There will be three
two-hour, evening exams during the semester.
There will be a three hour,
scheduled final exam.
All exams will be closed book, but you may use a single
8 1/2 x 11 inch sheet of notes on each exam
and two 8 1/2 x 11 inch sheets of notes on the
final.
Each exam will have four problems and the final will have six.
Of the twelve total exam problems,
only the ten with the highest scores will be counted when
computing the exam grade.
Likewise, the problem
with the lowest score
on the final
will be discarded.
Homework
Homework will come out about once a week. It will always be due,
in class,
one week after it is handed out.
Homework turned in after the end of class,
but before 5 PM the same day,
will be accepted with a 20% penalty.
Homework turned in after 5 PM on the due date will not be accepted.
Homework grades accumulate on a per problem basis, rather than per
assignment,
so an assignment with six problems is worth twice as much as one
with three.
You may (and in fact are encouraged to) work together on homework,
but the work you hand in should be your own.
Lab
Labs will be on
Thursday and Friday
afternoons and will run
once a week,
starting after the 1:00 class hour is over.
You will be required to maintain a laboratory notebook
which will be graded after each lab session.
