What's a-happenin', hot stuff?

Week ending 11-14-97

In what can probably be described as our group's "first week" on the project, we did an appreciable amount of brainstorming. We talked a lot about where we wanted to go and thought we could get in our remaining time this semester. After this brainstorming, we realized we needed to get two things done:

First, we needed to get a good set of data. That is, at least one (preferably more) set of 0 through 9 printed out fairly nicely on a computer, scanned in straight and well, segmented properly and scaled to a common size. This would give us the set of data easiest to work with - if we can't get our project to work on this, we're hosed.

After we get that done, it's just a matter of finding tests to distinguish between these numbers, be it just one test or a battery of tests. In order to do that, the rest of us set out to scour the Web and other information sources for algorithms that are commonly used, as well as brainstorming our own up. At least preliminarily, this provided us with a few good links
