NCSU CDK 1.2 Release Notes

PLEASE READ!!! It will only take a minute!

Admins, please see the installation instructions for more complete information.

These release notes assume you are either installing version 1.2 of the CDK from scratch, or that you're installing the 1.2 patch over a 1.1 kit. If you're upgrading from an version prior to 1.1, please download the intervening patches and apply them in order (and be sure to read the release notes!)

Items #4 and #5 are repeats from the version 1.0 and 1.1 release notes that still apply to version 1.2.

  1. The CDK has been updated to work with version 4.4.5 of the Cadence tools. Although the CDK will probably continue to work with 4.4.2 (perhaps with some minor modifications, e.g. setting NCSU_newLayoutMenuLabels to nil in local/cdssetup/cdsinit), we recommend you upgrade to version 4.4.3 or higher.

  2. There have been various updates in the layer definitions and physical rules techfiles (see the changelog for details). Admins who are applying the 1.2 patch (rather than the full 1.2 release) should recompile their technology libraries after applying the patch to make the updates available.

  3. The ntap pcell code has been updated to make sure that minimum-width constraints on the nwell layer are not violated. Admins who are applying the 1.2 patch (rather than the full 1.2 release) should update the pcells in their technology libraries. To do this, simply type redoPcells() in the CIW. Note that if you've already recompiled your tech libs (as suggested in item #1) after applying the 1.2 patch, you won't need to do this.

  4. The install.pl script no longer assumes the CDK is going to be installed in $CDS_ROOT/local. As such, the docs now reference paths to CDK files with the variable $cdk_dir, which is the CDK's toplevel directory. If you've previously installed the CDK, your $cdk_dir should be equal to $CDS_ROOT/local.

  5. Some of the MOSIS processes require minimum density coverage of certain layers (see the details). We do not yet have a means to autocheck this. If anyone would like to contribute a method for doing this, please let us know! However, since MOSIS will autofill large empty areas, this is probably not a major concern. Additionally, no antenna rule checks are performed. We intend to address this issue relatively soon.
