CONCLUSIONS

The experience of researching image compression techniques has
been very enlightening. Most image compression techniques are simple to understand but
more difficult to implement. Moreover while the techniques can help compression by
transforming information into another domain, it is clear that good quantization
techniques are key. DCT is a faster code that has good compression possibilities. The Haar
wavelet, though it is not the most effective wavelet to use for compression, achieves
admirable compression in conjunction with adaptive or statistical quantization.
